JU’s Quinton White: More people in water means more shark bites

A recent shark bite in the Atlantic Ocean off Jacksonville Beach has people talking — but it shouldn’t be surprising, says Dr. Quinton White, the Jacksonville University Marine Science Research Institute executive director.

“The more people that are in the water, the more opportunities there are for sharks to attack someone. The correlation is between people and sharks; the sharks are always there,” White said¬† in a Tuesday, June 25 report on WJXT-TV 4.

Authorities say the Georgia teenager who was bitten in the foot is recovering from her injuries.
